Horse Rescue Program
When Humane Society of Delaware County was founded in 1972, its mission was to serve and protect the cats and dogs of Delaware County, 44 years later HSDC has expanded and so have the sizes and shapes of animals in our are. We regularly rescue and adopt everything from hamsters to horses!
In July 2010, HSDC relaunched our Horse Rescue Program and began taking steps to make it self sufficient. Over the past few years many horses have been abandoned and neglected and in need of our help. The program operates through donations made specifically to our Horse Rescue Program, through horse adoption fees and special fund raisers held throughout the year.
Many horses have been rescued, rehomed or medically helped since we started this program. Often times its simply education of the owner on the proper way to feed or house the animal, if needed, we ask one of our veterinarian partners to come out and do an exam, or medical procedure, in dire situations we will call on one of our foster families to help us house the animal until a proper adopter can be found.
As always, we need funding and foster homes to help us help the horses of Delaware County. If you are interested in helping us in any way that you can, you can donate to our horse rescue program here.
If you know of a horse (and owner) that need our assistance, please fill out a cruelty/neglect report here (all reporter information is kept confidential).
If you are interested in adopting one of our available horses (when we have them) you can fill out an online adoption form here.
