Professional Assistance Volunteers Do you have a special skill you would like to share with HSDC? If so, please let us know. We would gladly welcome any professional assistance in the areas listed below. Legal Advising Fundraising Marketing Grant Writing Anything else you think could be of help to HSDC   We’ve Been Waiting for You When you visit our shelter, do you make a bee line straight for the dog adoption floor? Can you feel the energy in the room when our happy dogs start “yipping” and “woofing” in pure joy of simply seeing you? Does romping and playing with a dog count as YOUR exercise time? Did you look at this picture of the dog and smile to yourself because you can tell he’s prancing? If so, then you’re HSDC Volunteer material. Perhaps the quieter, but rather entertaining, community cat room draws you to our shelter. You love being surrounded by so many different cats -- each with its own unique personality. There’s the black cat who monitors the room from the window sill; a grey and white tabby who just loves chattering your ear off; the brown tiger and the orange tiger who always gets into a smack-down because they refuse to share your lap; and the affectionate calico you refer to as your ‘little purr-ball.” If you take pride and joy in knowing each cat personally, then you’re also HSDC Volunteer material.  Obviously, we have other volunteer opportunities, too. We are in dire need of clerical volunteers to help us at the desk, especially those who might want to come in on a scheduled base. And we sure could use some help with fundraising events and off-site mobile adoptions.   If you’re interested in joining our volunteer task force, please contact us at (740) 369-7387 or send an email to volunteerhsdc@hotmail.com. You may also fill out our online Volunteer Application Form. Volunteer orientations are held the first Friday of every month at 12:00 pm and the second Saturday of every month at 9:00 am. You will need to attend an orientation session (lasts approximately 30 minutes) before you can formally volunteer. After the meeting, you can immediately begin working with the animals. We are in desperate need of reliable clerical and customer service volunteers willing to work on a scheduled or weekly basis. Our office staff really could use the extra help with answering phones and retrieving voicemails, filing, and maybe even some computer work. If you’re interested in helping on this side of the desk and enjoy working with people, please contact us immediately.
