Special Events

The Humane Society of Delaware County is a private organization, funded entirely through membership fees, adoption fees, bequests, and donations. In addition, we hold a number of fund-raising and adoption events throughout the year. Come by and join us!

Bark At The Blues Race and Funwalk

Saturday, August 16, 2008, 8:00am, Blues Creek Preserve, 9627 Fontanelle Road, Ostrander

This is a Benefit for both Preservation Parks & the Humane Society of Delaware County. We have teamed up to bring you some enjoyable exercise with your family and "best friend" in a LOVELY outdoor setting. Participants will love the trail and scenery! Last year's runners and walkers could not say enough about the beautiful park setting.

Walkers, runners and dog lovers are invited for a 5K walk/jog, to benefit Preservation Parks and the Delaware County Humane Society.

Runners start at 8 a.m., the race walk begins at 8:15 a.m., and the fun walk begins at 9 a.m. (Leashed dogs are welcome on the fun walk!). Please come and join us!

HSDC Staff & Volunteers Appreciation Night

HSDC could not survive without the great efforts of both its staff and volunteers!

To show our appreciation, HSDC is sponsoring an evening of fun and games for its staff, volunteers, their families AND their pooches!

This is a great opportunity to meet other volunteers and the wonderful HSDC staff!

Among the highlights:

• A brief welcome from HSDC Director Wade Beane and the Volunteer Coordinator Amy Restucci
• Food and refreshments, games, and a 50/50 raffle
• A time for questions
• The opportunity to learn what's new and what's coming up at HSDC
• A chance to bring an HSDC dog for some fun outdoor time and see what "Dog Happy" really means!

If you are going to bring one or more of your pooches, please bring their up-to-date vaccination records and proof of spay/neuter.

Its gonna be a great time, so please come out and join us!

HSDC Mobile Adoptions

HSDC is participating in Mobile Adoption events almost every Saturday and Sunday throughout the rest of the season!
Fewer than half of all dogs adopted from animal shelters are adopted at the shelter---more than half are adopted off-site. There are several reasons for this:

• Not everyone feels comfortable at an animal shelter
• Some of our most special dogs don't "show well" in a shelter run but really shine in public
• Off-site events are the only time foster dogs get a viewing

Our core Mobile Adoption team can handle setting up tents and tables but we could always use an extra pair of loving hands to accompany a dog to an event, transport pups or to just provide a friendly greeting to the public. PLEASE contact the volunteer coordinator if you wish to help out, and thanks in advance!

Mobile adoption events allow prospective 'parents' to visit with our pooches outside the confines of the Humane Society, in a more natural environment for both. This provides a better way for both people and dogs to determine if their match will be a happy one that lasts for a long time.

Some events also allow our canine guests to run, play, and explore - to be the happy dogs they long to be, at least for a few hours.
