Welcome!
Welcome to the Humane Society of Delaware County (HSDC)! We are a non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless pets find their forever home. As with all local humane societies, we operate independent of national organizations and are funded entirely from people such as yourself - we receive no funding from the county or state. Our address is 4920 State Route 37E., in Delaware, Ohio, just north of Columbus. Our phone number is 740-369-7387. We are open Tuesday through Friday from 1-6 pm, Saturday 11 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from Noon to 4 pm. We are closed on Monday. What's Up At HSDC
Remembering AllieOn the morning of Saturday, January 23rd, two men suspected of at least six home invasions on the east side of Columbus came to Allie's house to attempt yet another one. When the men approached the door, Allie started barking. One of the men fired 3 shots through the door, killing Allie. But Allie's barking woke the only person in the house, who was able to get a look at the men and also get away, unharmed. Later that evening the two men were arrested with not only the items they took that night, but items from other home invasions they committed. Allie did exactly what she was supposed to do, protect her home under any circumstances. Her un-selfish actions are directly responsible for the person in the house getting away un-harmed. On the Monday after this tragedy, Allie's family contacted HSDC, writing: "Please help us memorialize Allie by donating a small gift in her name to the Humane Society of Delaware County. Lets take something bad and do something good!!" HSDC 120 Club100 people pledging $20 a month to help end animal cruelty Please join the Humane Society of Delaware County in stopping animal cruelty by becoming a proud member of the HSDC 120 Club. In an effort to cover the cost of one Humane Officer dedicated to responding to animal cruelty for the entire county of Delaware, HSDC needs to raise $24,000 every year. With your help this is an easy task! Every day, animals in Delaware County are beaten, starved and neglected. Dogs are forced to live outside in sub zero conditions without shelter and cats are treated like disposable garbage. Horses are confined in knee deep mud and livestock is left with no feed for weeks at a time. Please let your voice be heard by joining the HSDC 120 Club and help put an end to tragic violence in your community. Humane Agent Funding Needed!
Would they survive without our help?
Imagine a county with no one to investigate animal cruelty calls. That could be the situation in Delaware County as of January 1st, 2010! Despite numerous cuts in other HSDC projects and staff hours, funding for the critical position of Humane Agent will run out at the beginning of 2010. Residents have come to depend on the society to respond to animals in need, and the society has graciously offered this much needed service since 1972. The Humane Society of Delaware County, NOT the County Dog Warden, NOT the County Sheriff, has the SOLE responsibility of responding to cruelty complaints for ALL of Delaware County. Complaints in 2007 averaged 14 per month. In 2009, this average has grown to 90 per month, an increase of 540%. This dramatic increase was the result of the county's ever expanding population, combined with a growing awareness of what constitutes animal abuse. We are asking for YOUR HELP in donating to the Humane Services fund, which supports this position (Director's letter). Our estimate is that $25,000.00 is needed to staff this position. That's a lot of money to be sure, but a small amount to keep all of Delaware County pets safe and out of cruelty's vicious hands.Won't you please contribute by clicking the button below? EVERY bit helps! Alumni Spotlight: Reese
HSDC Alumni Reese (AKA Nappy) Adoption Day (by Reese Brink) Living at the Humane Society of Delaware, only a few years after the opening of the facility, I was curled up comfortably in my favorite chair alongside a low window preparing for my afternoon nap. A glimpse of the sun would peer though the window every few moments, just enough to warm the corner of my chair. Oh how I love that warm yellow ball that seems to hang effortlessly in the sky! Just as I started to doze off with my front feet cradled ever so daintily under my chest, my head bobbing downward toward the seat of the chair, the door knob begins to rattle ...then turn! Canine Art Guild BenefitThe Canine Art Guild is holding an online benefit for many of the rehoming centers and rescues in the country.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of two paintings by Patricia Getha will benefit the HSDC Cruelty Investigations service: You can also vote for the "People's Choice", the best picture or painting overall. Kroger Rewards Program Helps HSDC!Program ends April 30th, 2010

Please help continue the success of this program by encouraging friends to join and remembering to swipe your Kroger card every time you shop! The HSDC Fence Fund
Front yard of HSDC facility HSDC has a number of dogs who need to run, run , run! Without such exercise, a number of breeds (such as Border Collies and Australian Shepherds) quickly go downhill both mentally and physically. In fact, largely due to this lack of exercise, the most returned breed to shelters is the border collie. To give our dogs a place where they can run run free, HSDC would like to fence the front lawn of our facility. This area is over 1 acre, and will provide a wonderful area for dog exercise! We have the labor: All we need are the materials! Our estimate is that between $5000.00 - $7000.00 are needed. Our hope is to have the fence completed before Winter, but we can't do it without your help! If you would like to contribute any amount, please press the button below, and thanks in advance from all the HSDC guests! Heat From Herschel Fundraiser
Ron, Herschel, and Diana Thomas
In memory of their beloved lab, Herschel Thomas, Diana and Ron Thomas of H.E.A.T. Total Facility Solutions, Inc. are donating all the labor to install a new heating and cooling system at HSDC! Currently there is no ventilation system in the building. The new system will have outdoor air ventilation to keep the animals warm, cool, and healthy with fresh air coming in and going out of the building. Such ventilation is legally required for people, but not for animals. Special Events
